Reflections on The Dravidian Model

The change in Government that happened in 1967 was an extremely important one, when the DMK, led by the great Dravidian leader Anna secured a majority in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and formed the Government. It was significant not just in electoral terms, that the votaries of social justice and equality resoundingly voted against the existing order, but much more in ideological and social terms. Fundamentally, there was a key shift in the manner in which the new Government functioned, and this was so radically different from the earlier years, that it is important to emphasize its significance. Keeping in mind the basis of social justice and equal opportunities for all, Government service at all levels was opened up to all walks of life.
