'Magizhini'- First Tamil Musical Video on Two Girls' Love Goes Viral

Magizhini implies Happiness personified or Joy personified. Only Tamil scholars and Tamil lovers give the name to their girl children and it is not that familiar a name in Tamil Nadu. All of a sudden the name caught the attention of millions of Netizens across the Globe and raving in social media – thanks to ‘Magizhini – It’s not my fault’, the first Tamil song batting for LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer). The video song featuring two women in love is going viral in social media and has already set a record for three million plus views in YouTube. Short Film Director VG Balasubramanian, the maker of ‘Kambalipoochi’, the award winning short film has directed Magizhini, the music video, starring Actor Gouri K Kishan who was known for her role as Jaanu, the younger version of Actor Trisha in Tamil film ‘96 and Indian Model and Actor Anagha Maruthora. The video song narrates the story of two girls – Chennai based Malar (Gouri) and Induja (Anagha) from Delhi falling in love with each other when they get paired during a Bharatnatyam practice session. And the video begins with Induja consoling Malar in the green room and ends with the couple performing Bharatnatyam on the stage after depicting their love and conveying the same to their parents in the musical video. The video interspersed with visuals of the duo dealing with their parents after they became shell shocked on coming to aware of the love between the two. After Malar spends a night at Induja’s place her father sends her away from home. Later, Induja decides to tell her mother that she loves Malar. The song depicts the ordeal faced by the duo and how they convinced their parents to accept their love. Madan Karky, penned the lyrics of the song, which says love has transcended the barriers of race, religion and caste but still struggled to cross the barrier of same sex or gender. Karky, likening the two girls as flowers beautifully explores the love between Malar and Induja in his lyrics. Lending full support to the LGBTQ community, the Music video castigates those who made the laws or created barriers, prohibiting same sex love and calls for breaking the barriers.
