DMK Alliance Sweeps Rural Local Body Polls

In a massive endorsement of the leadership and good governance of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, people have given yet another resounding mandate to the DMK and its allies in the two-phase elections to rural local bodies on October 6 and October 9 in nine reorganized districts, five months after the DMK-led front’s formidable victory in the April-May 2021 Assembly elections. The DMK came out with spectacular colors in a historic win, winning 139 of the 153 District Panchayat ward members and 982 of the 1,421 Panchayat Union ward members for which elections were held on party basis in the nine districts of Kallakurichi, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tirupathur, Ranipet, Vellore, Villupuram, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi. For the posts of 3,007 Village Panchayat Presidents and 23,211 Village Panchayat ward members posts in these nine districts for which elections were held on non-party basis, close to 90 per cent of the contestants who won or who were elected unopposed, were DMK-supported candidates.
